This event is FREE thanks to a grant from the Monuments Across Appalachian Virginia project, funded by the Mellon Foundation.
The Educational Forum will examine the history of United States Colored Troops enlistees born in Franklin County and discuss the significance of the USCT in the context of both national and local history.
There will be opportunities to listen to speakers, participate in question-and-answer sessions, and wander at your own pace to view and read exhibits that explain the history and tell the stories of the 70 enlistees born in Franklin County, Virginia. Some sessions are a more traditional presentation with question-and-answer time; others are more interactive.
After the opening session, you may choose from several options for each session. Each session will last about an hour with about 20 minutes devoted to questions and answers. There will be 15 minutes of break time and travel between each session. Although…
